And the story ...

THE ARRESTS

At the dawn of Thursday 12 November, the greek police invades into the homes of 5 students in Agia Paraskevi borough, due to a European Arrest Warrant issued by the prosecutor authorities of Milan, which request their arrest and extradition to Italy.
The students are known in the city for their political and social action as members of the Public Assembly of Agia Paraskevi Residents, and they also participate to the struggles of the students movement and in labour demands.

MAY DAY IN MILAN

In 1/5/2015, during their travelling in Milan, the 5 students participated to the march of the May Day strike, which had as frontline the opposition to the Universal Exhibition Expo Milano 2015, which was taking place those days in Milan and was creating a suffocating economic and social climate at the expense of the lowest social strata in Milan.
In 2/5/2015, a day after the rally, and on the sole criterion of our departure from an occupied social center, we were adducted by the italian police in the context of massive adductions. After a detention of several hours without an interpreter, we were released with no charges accused.

THE EUROPEAN ARREST WARRANT

Six months later, the police and prosecutor authorities of Milan, in order to disorientate the public from the scandals and the judicial investigations about the dealings between the Mafia and the Expo 2015, proceeded to the prosecution of 10 of the protesters from Italy and Greek of the May Day strike. Thus, 5 Greek students with clean criminal records are encountering a Europian Arrest Warrant (EAW) – procedure that is used exclusively to legal cases about serious crimes like human and drug trafficking.
It is the first time from the day the EAW was established that an extradition from one EU state to another is requested for reasons concerning political actions. It is clear that we are experiencing an unprecedented and extremely worrying concerning issue of an effort to criminalise the freedom of expression, political activities and international solidarity.
The above are the reasons that we fight against the extradition of the 5 students to Italy, and the cessation of the political prosecution of both the 5 Greek students and the 5 Italian activists.
